Use instant indigo crystals in a simple, environmentally friendly process.

The $45 materials fee covers the instruction manual, 3 silk scarves, sample swatches & yarns, and all the supplies needed for indigo dyeing. Students may bring 1-2 yards of their own natural-fiber fabrics or up to 1lb of yarns, basket materials, handmade papers to dye.

HAVE FUN WITH 8 SHAFTS
Madelyn van der Hoogt

If you have an eight-shaft loom and wonder what you can do with those extra four shafts, this workshop is for you. Find out what structures you can weave on eight that you can’t on four, learn how to expand four-shaft drafts to eight shafts, and gain skill in designing and using block weaves on eight. Students bring 8-shaft looms each pre-threaded to an eight-shaft draft and weave samples in round robin fashion.

PAINTED PAPER BASKETS
Mariana Mace

This class will combine surface design and weaving. Participants will have the opportunity to explore color and design in creating two sided painted papers for use in creating at least two small baskets and a mat. Additional paper can be painted for a small additional materials fee.

Day one

Paint paper for two small baskets and a mat.
Design pattern for mat and weave diamond twill pattern. This mat can be used in a window top lidded box, or as a frameable piece.

Day two

Weave beaded cross-stitch trinket basket. This is an ideal small basket that can be used as a jewelry holder or as a special gift container for someone special. The glass beads woven in along with the cross-stitch technique add a tactile dimension to the basket.

Day three

Weave diagonal plaited desktop caddy. This surprisingly sturdy basket can be designed using patterns that originate in the layout of the base. Either a saw-tooth rim or a straight rim can be woven as part of the basket.

Materials fee - $ 20

SENSATIONAL SPINNING

Janis Thompson

(students must be able to spin a cohesive thread.)

Day 1 - Get to know your Wheel
Explore the why's & wherefores of your particular Spinning Wheel. Find out when and how to use the OTHER drive ratios that came with your wheel.
Janis will gently guide you through the many ways to evaluate what you are spinning and set up the wheel accordingly. Many different fibers and fiber preparations will be examined and evaluated in class. Learn to decipher many of the terms like Woolen & Worsted as they apply to drafting styles and finished yarn. We will be actively spinning our way through short - medium - long fibers. This is how we learn to adjust our wheels & ourselves.

Day 2 - Play Date with COLOR!

Spread your wings in this FUN class, designed to get you more comfortable using COLOR in your spinning. Students will learn the basics of drum carder use as well as blending a variety of fibers with neutrals & colored wool as a base. Using the color wheel, we will evaluate colors, adjust the tine, tone & shade, blending as we go to create GLORIOUS batts!

Day 3 - Roving Reveal

Now that you are a Wheel Master......we will take ONE dyed roving and from it...spin FIVE different structures. Learn how to sample and create a "control" yarn. See how the structure you choose CHANGES the look and feel of the finished yarns. We will spin singles, 2 ply, spiral, navajo & cabled yarns....using all the skills we learned on day 1.
