Learn the basic Japanese stitch-resist techniques:  wood grain (mokume), chevron stripes (maki nui), double lines (ori nui) and filled double lines (shippo) patterns.  Stitch a small sample of each technique, learn how to compress the stitching for crisp, clear patterning and then dye them in indigo.  Design a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, a furoshiki, laying out the pattern with fugitive blue pen.  All the tools and materials will be provided along with detailed instructions and templates.
