Discover Plying

Description:
You’ve learned to spin a stable yarn, now it’s time to discover various ways to ply your yarn. Plying makes a stronger, more stable and balanced yarn, and is the basis for novelty yarns. We’ll make 2-ply, 3-ply, spiral, and chain-plied yarns, and discuss their differences and uses. We’ll discuss how to choose the right amount of twist for a balanced yarn, plying for different projects, how to avoid and correct plying difficulties, and how to wet finish your yarn.
Students bring wheel (treadle or electric) in good working order, lazy kate, 3 full bobbins of medium weight singles yarn (or about 200 yards each), one empty bobbin, and a niddy noddy if you have one.
Students should be familiar with their wheel and can spin a continuous thread.
