I've owned my swift for 40 years and the only maintenance I've ever had to do is retie it every so often. For the first time ever, I decided to apply some cutting board butter to the center spindle as the swift was starting to get a little stiff and groan a bit as I was winding a ball. This is a well loved and well used tool which I can't imagine being without!
